Chen Shen was born in Shanghai, China. He graduated from University of Baltimore with B.S. degree. Later, he also earned an MBA from University of Baltimore. He attended Executive Program at American Management Association.
He started his professional career with National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia as marketing analyst. Later, he joined Schlumberger and spent 15 years with the company in various marketing and management positions. His jobs focused on launching new businesses in Europe and Americas.
Through his travel in Colombia, he had fallen in love with magic of emerald. In 2008, he started Skywalk Global as gemstone wholesale business, specializing in Colombian emerald. With deep appreciation of art and jewelry, in 2012, he took his creative mind and business acumen to China and started jewelry retailer Rico Gems in Shanghai. Through innovative products mix and marketing, he quickly built the company into multimillions business. During this time, he traveled extensively in China and researched emerald’s Chinese history. In 2015, he and his partner Ronald Ringsrud published the Chinese book: Emeralds: A Passionate Guide. It is the first professional book on emerald’s Chinese history.
He is also a member of International Colored Gemstone Association. He follows closely on the development of retail business and new technology in China. With his extensive connection with gemstones and diamonds sources, his opinions and advices on Chinese market are sought by international and Chinese gemstones and jewelry professional alike.
Chen is a member of American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. He helps to facilitate mergers and acquisitions for Chinese companies. With a passion for entrepreneurship, Chen also runs the wholesale of Chinese freshwater pearl business and a green technology startup.
